On a beautiful sunny Saturday, students from SEK-Dublin Summer Camp visited Trinity College and The Book of Kells. Everyone quickly realised how famous and popular this trip is when we saw the long queues to get inside. Trinity College is Ireland’s oldest university and library – it was founded in 1592 AD – and students come from all over the world to study and work there. The library is a fantastic building that looks exactly like a Harry Potter movie. The Book of Kells is kept in the library and is even older than Trinity! The Book of Kells is really an early bible, that was handwritten in gold and Celtic patterns by monks in Ireland in about 800 AD. The Book of Kells has survived the Vikings, the Cromwellian invasions, the Irish Rising and two World Wars – it is very important and very valuable.
Afterwards students went shopping for an hour or two in Grafton Street and in Stephens Green Shopping Centre. There were street entertainers and parades on in Grafton Street and the day was very entertaining for everyone.
